Pet Loss/Euthanasia

Many clients have questions about the process of euthanasia. Our team members always try to make this difficult time as easy as possible for both you and your pet. We will do our best to respect your wishes regarding every aspect of the euthanasia process. We offer a dedicated room that allows for comfort and privacy. You are welcome to be with your pet and can stay as long as you wish afterwards. Please be sure to let us know if there is anything that we can do to make things better for you.

Before the euthanasia procedure we place an IV catheter so that we have a secure and painless access to administer the euthanasia solution. This also allows a family member to hold your pet during the euthanasia if you desire. The euthanasia solution itself is a general anesthetic, causing rapid and peaceful sleep. The high dose of the anesthetic then causes the heart to stop.

We offer pet cremation through a very reputable crematorium – GATEWAY Pet Memorial. You may choose communal cremation or individual cremation. If you elect individual cremation, your pet’s ashes will be returned to you. We have a number of urns available and one of our team members will be glad to show you. Please feel free to contact us or click on the Gateway link (icon below) to view their website. You are then in the privacy of your own home and can take the time you need to review the individual cremation options available to you. We will take care of all your needs once your choices have been made..

Brack Animal Hospital is always available to help you through this difficult process. We can help you in assessing your pet’s quality of life and help provide information to assist you and your family’s decision. Please call us if you have any questions about any aspects of the euthanasia process.

There are many resources available to offer support after the loss of a pet. Please let us know if we can be of assistance with this.
